Tyler Sadwith Appointed as DHCS State Medicaid Director

What’s happening: On March 13, Gov. Newsom announced the appointment of Tyler Sadwith as state Medicaid director at the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), effective March 25.  

What else to know: Sadwith has held leadership positions at DHCS since July 2021, most recently serving as deputy director for behavioral health since June 2022.   

Sadwith has led multiple reforms, programs, and funding investments to strengthen behavioral health access, quality, and service delivery for Medi-Cal members and Californians served by public programs. This includes the various behavioral health policy endeavors in the California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal (CalAIM) demonstration. The position is not subject to Senate confirmation.         

CHA looks forward to working with Sadwith on various Medi-Cal priorities and initiatives, including continuing the implementation of CalAIM, improving hospital reimbursement, and ensuring accountability within Medi-Cal managed care.
