CHA Hosts Legislative Briefing on AI in Health Care

What’s happening: On Feb. 24, CHA held a virtual briefing to educate legislative staff about artificial intelligence (AI) in health care — including its use, governance, and opportunities in California’s health care delivery system.  What else to know: More than 50 legislative staff, including staff from the Assembly and Senate Health Committees and the Assembly Committee on Privacy and Consumer Protection, heard from three CHA member panelists:  Matt Eisenberg, MD, associate chief medical information officer, Stanford Health Care  Kristine Lee, MD, associate executive director,...

AB 2096 (Pacheco, D-Downey)

AB 2096 would reverse the respiratory scope-of-practice limitations enacted by SB 1436 (Roth, 2022), restoring licensed vocational nurses’ authority beyond the “basic respiratory tasks” framework. This would include allowing ventilator adjustments, suctioning, oxygen titration, and respiratory assessments.

SB 1179 (Menjivar, D-Van Nuys)

SB 1179 would establish a pilot licensure pathway that permits certain Salvadoran-trained physicians to practice for up to three years at federally qualified health centers and affiliated hospitals, subject to specified training and oversight requirements.

AB 2353 (Pacheco, D-Downey)

AB 2353 would establish an independent, nonpartisan entity that would evaluate the impact of proposed legislative mandates on hospitals. This analysis would be completed during the legislative process to give lawmakers an assessment of the cost and benefits of the proposed legislation. See CHA’s alert.
