Obamacare is under threat, lives are at stake: Today’s talkers

At a time when one in four Americans are forgoing needed health care because they simply can’t afford to see their doctor or buy their prescription drugs, the Trump administration is making the situation worse.

It is waging war on some of our country’s most vulnerable people — children, the terminally ill, people with disabilities and the elderly — by urging the complete judicial repeal of the Affordable Care Act. Such an action would leave millions of families without health care coverage, their health care costs would increase exponentially, and our nation would erase hard-won protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

For American Indians, Health is a Human and Legal Right

Most will be surprised to learn that American Indians and Alaska Natives represent the only populations in the United States with a legal birthright to health care.[1] Even though Article 25 of the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights declares, “everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including…medical care and necessary social services,” U.S. federal policy only guarantees this human right to enrolled tribal members. The source of this juridical entitlement is what the United States Supreme Court has defined as the federal trust responsibility.

Donate Life Month Emphasizes Importance of Organ Donation

This post has been archived and contains information that may be out of date.

April is National Donate Life Month, a time when organizations across the country educate and motivate individuals to register as organ, eye and tissue donors.

Hospitals that educate staff and community members about the need for donors can earn recognition from the Health Resources and Services Administration. For more information, contact donation@hrsa.gov.

One organ donor can save the lives of up to eight people and heal countless others with tissue donation. Anyone — regardless of age, ethnicity, or medical history — can register as a donor and help save the life of one of the over 21,000 people on California’s organ transplant waiting list. More information is available from Donate Life California, the state-authorized nonprofit organization that manages the registry.
