SACRAMENTO (May 11, 2026) — In honor of National Hospital Week and the hospitals and health care workers who make healing possible, the California Hospital Association (CHA) is pleased to share the Senate’s adoption of Senate Resolution (SR) 110 (Shannon Grove, R-Bakersfield), which recognizes May 10-16, 2026, as a time to appreciate and celebrate hospitals and the communities they serve.
“It’s a reminder to pause to consider the role that hospitals play in our own lives, and the lives of our loved ones,” said CHA President & CEO Carmela Coyle. “Our children are born there, lives are saved there, and it’s in hospitals that we hold the hands of loved ones as they recover from disease and illness. Hospitals are there to help us through our highest highs and our lowest lows — they are there for us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.”
Sen. Grove affirmed the importance of hospitals.
“California’s hospitals are at the very heart of our communities,” she said. “They are there for us in our most vulnerable and critical moments. As author of SR-110, I firmly believe we must continue to support and strengthen these essential lifelines that deliver exceptional, life-saving care to our families every single day.”
California is home to more than 450 hospitals in rural, suburban, and urban areas — serving one in four Californians every year, including 15 million emergency room visits for critical health care services. And yet, it is harder than ever for hospitals to stay afloat.
“National Hospital Week is an opportunity to say, ‘We’re here for you when you need us,’” Coyle said. “And even in the face of adversity, hospitals remain committed to all we have the privilege to care for.”
