The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) proposed the Transforming Episode Accountability Model (TEAM), which will hold selected hospitals accountable for the cost and quality of certain high-volume surgical procedures. TEAM aims to improve Medicare patient outcomes while reducing Medicare spending.
This proposed model focuses Medicare bundled payments on the following five high-volume procedures:
- Lower extremity joint replacement
- Surgical repair of a fracture
- Major bowel procedure
- Spinal fusion
- Coronary artery bypass graph
The mandatory model is proposed to start in 2026. CHA is hosting a webinar featuring experts who will explain the model, provide best practice advice, and answer questions.
