AB 1331 (Elhawary, D-Los Angeles) Details
Passed the Assembly on June 5. Pending a Senate policy committee assignment.
AB 1331 would limit the use of workplace surveillance tools by prohibiting an employer from monitoring or surveilling workers in off-duty areas, including employee cafeterias and lounges. It would also give workers the right to disable or leave behind workplace surveillance tools that are either on their person or in their possession during off-duty hours. Amendments taken in the Assembly Appropriations Committee would allow for the limited use of video-only surveillance in areas where employees take breaks and prohibit an employer from reviewing the video surveillance absent certain conditions.
