What’s happening: On Aug. 14 from 1-2 p.m. (PT), the Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) will host a webinar to discuss requirements and strategies for California hospitals developing their seismic compliance plans — which all general acute care hospitals must submit to HCAI by Jan. 1, 2026.
What else to know: By 2030, all hospitals buildings must be fully operational following a major earthquake — a standard only one-third of hospitals meet as of 2025. Assembly Bill 869 (2024) allows for small, rural, critical access, or health care district hospitals to apply for a delay of up to three years, but requesting hospitals must still submit their seismic compliance plan by Jan. 1, 2026.
The webinar will include:
- An introduction to the new automated Seismic Compliance Plan webtool
- A presentation of several sample compliance plans to demonstrate how facilities might develop their own plans
- A discussion of frequently asked questions to address common concerns and clarify requirements
