What’s happening: On June 20, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued its final rule on Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace integrity and affordability.
What else to know: While most of the provisions go into effect on Aug. 25, CMS sunsets many of these changes after plan year 2026.
The final rule:
- Establishes new standards for the health insurance marketplaces and addresses improper and fraudulent enrollments
- Shortens the open enrollment period for the federal marketplace
- Limits open enrollment periods for state-based marketplaces to a nine-week period
- Increases the maximum annual cost-sharing limitation
