What’s happening: Yesterday, Gov. Gavin Newsom released the May budget revision, which included proposals to pull away $1.6 billion in funding dedicated to health care organizations through last year’s Proposition 35. This came just days after the House Energy and Commerce Committee released a proposal to cut more than $715 billion from Medicaid (Medi-Cal in California).
What else to know: If the federal bill passes in its current form, high-level, 10-year estimates show California hospitals will see major cuts in several areas. And a state budget proposal that’s been revised to sweep away funding legally allocated to health care organizations is not only a direct violation of state law, but also a snub to the millions of California voters who supported this ballot measure last fall.
