The California delegation will likely have a similar split between Democrats and Republicans in the new Congress as it currently does. To date, only one seat has changed parties; Democrat George Whitesides defeated GOP incumbent Rep. Mike Garcia. Rep-elect Whitesides will be one of seven freshmen — all Democrats. GOP incumbent Reps. Michelle Steel and John Duarte are still waiting for results in their election bids; if they keep their seats, there will be 41 Democrats and 11 Republicans in the California congressional delegation.
