Deadline Approaching to Dispute Per Resident Amounts and Full Time Equivalent Resident Caps

A Nov. 18 deadline is approaching for teaching hospitals that want to request reviews of their per resident amounts (PRAs) and full-time equivalent resident caps for certain cost reports.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced the deadline to dispute both under Section 131 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act. That act provides an opportunity for certain hospitals with very low direct graduate medical education PRAs or resident caps to reset those PRAs and resident caps between Dec. 27, 2020, and Dec. 26, 2025.

To qualify for review, the hospital must electronically submit a review request with documentation to its Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) no later than Nov. 18. MACs will begin review after the deadline. Additional questions should be directed to the MAC.
