The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) has issued an informal request for information to gather feedback on a potential new distinct payment model — the Oncology Care First Model — that builds on the current CMMI Oncology Care Model.

As currently planned, the Oncology Care First Model would be a voluntary, five-year model that would be tested throughout the U.S. from January 2021 to December 2025. Participants would include both physician group practices and hospital outpatient departments that provide oncology care.

CMS held a public listening session on Nov. 4 to gather feedback; a recording is available. CHA expects CMMI to make this model available to providers at some point next year.

CMS has extended the deadline for comments to 2 p.m. (PT) on Dec. 13. Comments should be sent to OCF@cms.hhs.gov.
