On Sept. 29, the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services (CMS) approved the 2022 Hospital Fee Program, originally submitted on Dec. 31, 2021. This approval comes after nine months of negotiation and collaboration among CHA, our constituent hospital associations, and the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS).

The 2022 Hospital Fee Program (CHA Model), which runs Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2022, will provide California’s hospitals with a net benefit of approximately $4.1 billion over the 12-month period.

What’s next?

  • This week: DHCS will finalize its implementation schedule for the 2022 Hospital Fee Program.
  • Next week: DHCS is expected to distribute all the invoices associated with the quarterly fee-for-service cycles.
  • By Oct. 14: CHA will distribute individual schedules to every hospital participating in the 2022 Hospital Fee Program. This will include the timing and estimated amounts associated with every fee-for-service (FFS) and managed care cycle.

Copies of the CMS approval letters have been posted under Program 7 on the CHA Hospital Fee Program web page.
