The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced its intention to expand the Home Health Value-Based Purchasing model.

Implemented in nine states beginning in 2016, the model was designed to test whether payment incentives would improve the quality and delivery of Medicare home health services. CMS reports that the model has resulted in improvements in home health agencies’ performance in quality reporting measures, as well as cost savings.

The expanded program would begin no sooner than calendar year 2022.
