The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that more than 700,000 health care providers and organizations are participating in at least one of three accountable care models in 2023.

More than 13.2 million Medicare fee-for-service beneficiaries are projected to receive care from providers participating in one of the models.

The models include the Medicare Shared Savings Program; the Accountable Care Organization Realizing Equity, Access, and Community Health Model, which targets underserved communities; and the Kidney Care Choices Model, which coordinates care for Medicare beneficiaries with chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease.

CMS’ goal is to have 100% of people in traditional Medicare in an accountable care relationship with their health care provider by 2030.
