CHA – along with the California Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, and the Texas Hospital Association – sent a letter to Congress this week urging it to include Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program parity for California and Texas physicians in the next COVID-19 relief package or any year-end legislation.

The Stopping Doctor Shortages Act (H.R. 4607/S. 3746) provides a technical clarification to the 2008 federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program that inadvertently excluded physicians in California and Texas from participating in the program because of the respective state laws that prohibit facility employment of physicians.

CHA thanks Rep. Josh Harder (CA-10), Rep. Paul Cook (CA-8), and Sen. Dianne Feinstein for leading this important effort.
