What’s happening: CHA sent a letter to the California congressional delegation in support of the Preserving Emergency Access in Key Sites (PEAKS) Act (H.R. 7931).
What else to know: The legislation would protect critical access hospitals (CAHs) in rural and mountainous areas by correcting a misalignment in Medicare’s CAH ambulance reimbursement requirements.
In the letter, CHA urges members of the delegation to support and co-sponsor the bipartisan legislation. The legislation would also ensure CAHs in mountainous areas would retain their designation even if a new hospital is built within 15 miles.
CHA continues to educate the delegation about rural hospital needs and the resources necessary to keep doors open to care for patients in their communities.
