On behalf of its members, CHA has submitted a letter to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) in response to a request for stakeholder input on the development of regulations for general acute care hospital (GACH) observation services.
In the letter, CHA requests that CDPH clearly distinguish between observation services, which are routinely provided by GACHs in emergency departments and inpatient units, and requirements for designated observation units. CHA also requests that CDPH specify that services provided by licensed GACHs that operate emergency departments are inclusive of observation services
