CHA DataSuite Releases Three Quality Analyses for First Quarter 2024

What’s happening: CHA DataSuite releases three hospital-specific analyses for quality measure trends, value-based purchasing (VBP), and the hospital-acquired condition (HAC) reduction program.

What else to know: The analyses are intended to provide hospitals a preview of the program’s potential impact for federal fiscal year (FFY) 2025, based on the most recent publicly available data and program rules established by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

Quality Measure Trends:

The quality measure trends used the updated measures in the first quarter 2024 Care Compare. The measures updated in this release are Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS), Safety, and HCAHPS Star Ratings.

VBP Program:

The VBP analysis estimates VBP scores, impacts, and scoring trends and provides full detail on how the points and scores for each VBP measure and domain are calculated. The FFY 2025 figures are estimates, based on CMS’ first quarter 2024 update of Care Compare.

HAC Reduction Program:

The HAC analysis evaluates hospital performance for the FFY 2025 program. It uses data from the first quarter 2023 and first quarter 2024 updates of Care Compare for Healthcare-Associated Infection measures and the fourth quarter 2023 update of Care Compare for the Patient Safety and Adverse Events Composite measure. The report includes estimates, details on how HAC measures and domain scores are calculated, and how payment penalties are determined and applied under the program.
