CHA Comments on Draft 340B Legislation

This post has been archived and contains information that may be out of date.

What’s happening: CHA submitted feedback on draft legislation related to the 340B Drug Pricing Program, which allows rural and safety-net hospitals to buy outpatient drugs at discounted prices.

What else to know: The bipartisan SUSTAIN 340B Act considers significant changes to the 340B program.

In the letter, CHA strongly urges the bill’s sponsors — Sens. John Thune (R-SD), Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Jerry Moran (R-KS), and Benjamin Cardin (D-MD) — not to make changes that would limit the 340B program’s effectiveness. CHA outlined the program’s critical importance to maintaining access to health care in rural and underserved communities and warned that without it, many safety-net hospitals would be forced to curtail vital programs or close outright.

CHA also provided detailed responses on specific questions included in the Senate’s request for information.

CHA will continue to educate the congressional delegation about the importance of protecting the 340B Drug Pricing Program.
