What’s happening: Sen. Anna Caballero (D-Salinas Valley) received the 2024 Public Service Award for leading the charge on seismic relief for California’s hospitals and for tremendous leadership and dedication to helping keep hospitals open.
What else to know: When considering a recipient for this award, the CHA Board of Trustees looks to characteristics that exemplify the individual’s everyday work in hospitals throughout California — and Senator Caballero has spent decades as a public servant whose mission is to improve the lives of all Californians.
Senator Caballero has become a passionate supporter of financially distressed hospitals, co-authoring the distressed hospital loan program (Assembly Bill 412). She also was the lead author of this year’s seismic bill (Senate Bill 1432), for which she spent countless hours talking with and negotiating the bill with numerous stakeholders. Through her incredible work ethic, she has become one of the strongest champions for hospitals in the Legislature.
