CHA has submitted a letter to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), advocating for an extension of the Acute Hospital Care at Home waiver, which was introduced in November 2020.

Acute Hospital Care at Home expanded on the Hospitals Without Walls waiver, which provided regulatory flexibility for hospitals to treat patients in locations outside the hospital, including their homes. While the current waiver will expire at the end of the public health emergency, several hospitals have expressed interest in establishing permanent programs, citing benefits for patient care, outcomes, and resource utilization.

In the letter, CHA urges CMS to explore all possible regulatory flexibility to continue the Acute Hospital Care at Home waiver and to provide information to hospitals and state regulatory bodies to inform continued and implementation.
