In 2021, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) announced its plans to centralize and automate the program flexibility process for all facilities requesting program flexibility and for skilled-nursing facilities requesting workforce shortage waivers and patient needs waivers.

On Jan.7, CDPH released All Facilities Letter 22-01 that provides the rollout schedule for centralization of the program flexibility process by district office and prioritization criteria for registering users for the online application. With this transition to an online platform, as well as having a centralized team dedicated to this process, CDPH looks to increase efficiency and consistency in the review process.
