In All Facilities Letter (AFL) 21-25, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) announced that it is requiring general acute care hospitals to report patient-level discharge information for each hospitalized person who tests positive for COVID-19. To assist hospitals with this data reporting, CDPH recently released FAQs on this AFL.

Hospitals can send their data each Tuesday to CDPH via Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP). For information on setting up the SFTP or for additional details on data reporting please refer to AFL 21-25. Any questions can be directed to CDPH at its CalREDIE Help Desk at calrediehelp@cdph.ca.gov.

CDPH has stated that it appreciates hospitals’ participation in this data collection effort. Furthermore, it has shared that it is aware that some hospitals may be reporting the same data to multiple places and is working to reduce the amount of dual reporting and data reporting burden. It also notes that this data collection effort has been helpful to CDPH to better understand breakthrough COVID-19 cases.
