CDPH Formally Extends Space Waiver Through End of Year

On Sept. 3, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) issued All Facilities Letter (AFL) 20-26.10, formally extending the statewide space waiver. The waiver had previously been set to expire Sept. 30 and will now be in place until Dec. 31.

CHA had advocated to state leaders to extend the executive order authority for CDPH to issue such waivers. An executive order released Aug. 16 did just that. CHA then requested that CDPH release an updated AFL that adopted the Dec. 31 expiration date to maximize the flexibility through the end of the year. This AFL signals the adoption of that policy recommendation. As a result, all statutory and regulatory provisions related to the configuration and use of physical space and classification of beds in a hospital will remain waived through the end of the year.
