Call Your Legislators to Request Hospital Financial Relief from the State Budget

ACTION NEEDED

The Legislature is wrapping up the budget process as it negotiates with the governor in time to meet the June 15 constitutional deadline to pass a balanced budget.

Hospitals throughout California continue to face severe financial distress that requires immediate one-time relief from the state budget to keep them open and ensure that communities have access to services. Additionally, long-term stabilization of Medi-Cal rates must be achieved through reauthorization of the managed care organization (MCO) tax dedicated to health care providers.

CHA needs hospital leaders to call their state legislators and ask them to talk to their legislative leadership. Specifically:

  • Share how the failure to provide immediate one-time funding and stabilize Medi-Cal rates through the MCO tax will harm access to care.
  • Ask your legislators to reiterate to Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, Assembly Budget Chair Phil Ting, Senate Pro Tem Toni Atkins, and Senate Budget Chair Nancy Skinner the urgent need for financial relief to address hospitals’ ongoing financial challenges.

TIMING

Legislators must understand the importance of financial relief in protecting access to patient care. Please call your legislators by May 30. Find your state Assembly member and senator’s contact information in this online directory
