‘Building the Healthcare Workforce’ Grant Program Proposals Due April 1

What’s happening: To address the chronic health care provider shortage in its counties, the County Medical Services Program (CMSP) Governing Board has released a request for proposals (RFP) for its new Building the Healthcare Workforce (BHW) grant program. The application deadline is April 1 at 3 p.m. (PT).

What else to know: This BHW grant program may support or expand such health care workforce groups as primary care, nursing, behavioral health, dental, allied health, and public health, to name a few. Visit the governing board’s website to download the RFP and associated forms, and submit proposals to grants@cmspcounties.org.

Up to $14 million in BHW grant funding will be available across two tracks and multiple funding rounds:

  • Track 1: coalition planning grant awards, which are up to $60,000 per project over a nine-month period (or up to $85,000 if the project serves more than one CMSP county)
  • Track 2: initiative grant awards, which are up to $450,000 per project for up to a three-year period (or up to $750,000 if the project serves more than one CMSP county)

Eligible applicants in CMSP counties include:

  • Hospitals
  • Community health centers
  • Tribal health organizations
  • Nonprofit health and behavioral health organizations focused on health care workforce development
  • County department or agency directly providing or contracting for the delivery of health, public health, and behavioral health services
  • Workforce development boards

Eligible applicants also include public educational institutions providing health provider education and training — including community colleges, universities, medical schools, physician assistant schools, nursing schools, and dental schools — either in CMSP counties or in contiguous counties dedicated to educating health care professionals and paraprofessionals for CMSP counties.

Governing board staff will conduct two webinars to assist applicants with the RFP and submission process: The first is Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. (PT), and the second is March 12 at 1 p.m. (PT).
