AB 1196 would update minimum staffing requirements for cardiac surgery teams in general acute care hospitals. This bill would mandate that each surgical team performing procedures requiring extracorporeal bypass includes one qualified surgeon and two additional team members who are either physician assistants or registered nurses. It also requires the California Department of Public Health to update its regulations by Jan. 1, 2027, to align with these requirements.
