Urge Legislators to Support Extending Hospital Seismic Deadline to 2037

This post has been archived and contains information that may be out of date.

Action needed:

Write the Assembly Health Committee Chair to request support for Senate Bill (SB) 758 (Portantino, D-La Cañada Flintridge). This bill would extend the 2030 hospital seismic deadline to 2037 and create an advisory committee to examine how California’s health care delivery system prepares and responds to disasters of all kinds. CHA has developed a template letter and background document for your use. Please send your letter to Dawn Vicari at dvicari@calhospital.org so that it can be emailed to the committee and staff.

Timing:

Send your letter by July 28. The bill will likely be heard in the Assembly Health Committee on August 4.

Background:

CHA-sponsored SB 758 would require the California Department of Public Health to convene a Health Care Delivery System Preparedness Advisory Committee to make recommendations on how to provide care during and after the next disaster. This requirement is coupled with immediate seismic mandate relief for hospitals that would extend the requirement from 2030 to 2037, so hospitals are able to keep their doors open to care for all Californians in all ways, whatever disaster may come.
