California Congressional members and their staff are invited to a special briefing from California hospital leaders on the current COVID-19 surge and its impact on their communities. Presenters will include:

This virtual briefing will be held on two dates and outline CA hospitals’ response to the recent Delta surge. Presenters will discuss the comprehensive effort CA hospitals are engaged in to care for their communities including the status of personal protective equipment, hospitals’ ability to treat increasing numbers of patients, and staffing and vaccination status of frontline health care workers. Ample time will be allowed for your questions during this interactive briefing.

Elaine Batchlor, MD, MPH, is the chief executive officer of Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital, a state-of-the-art private safety net hospital providing compassionate, quality care to the South Los Angeles community. Her innovative work to increase access for underserved populations has been recognized nationally, earning her recognition as an Irvine Foundation California Leader, a Becker’s Review listing among the top 26 women physician executives in the country, and membership in the National Academy of Medicine.

Carmela Coyle began her tenure as president and CEO of the California Hospital Association, the statewide leader representing the interests of more than 400 hospitals and health systems in California, in October 2017. Previously, Ms. Coyle led the Maryland Hospital Association for nine years, where she played a leading role in reframing the hospital payment system in Maryland and moving to a value-based methodology. Maryland is now considered a national leader in health care policy and innovation.

Patty Maysent is the chief executive officer for UC San Diego Health and is responsible for the performance and operations of the health system, which employs more than 9,300 team members and has an operating budget in excess of $1.7 billion. With nearly 30 years of executive experience in hospital and health services management, Maysent has increased both the national reputation and geographic footprint of UC San Diego Health since becoming CEO.

Scott Reiner is the chief executive officer of Adventist Health, a faith-based, nonprofit integrated health system serving more than 80 communities in California, Oregon and Hawaii with a mission of living God’s love by inspiring health, wholeness and hope. As CEO, he is responsible for setting the vision and direction of Adventist Health and positioning the organization for community health impact and growth.

Todd Suntrapak serves as the president and chief executive officer of Valley Children’s Healthcare, one of only 13 free-standing pediatric specialty healthcare systems in the country, based in the heart of California’s Central Valley. For more than 25 years, Suntrapak has worked for Valley Children’s in leadership roles including strategy, clinical operations, and business development, advancing the hospital into a comprehensive delivery network now serving 1.3 million children.
