Webinar to Detail DHCS Decision to Allow Retroactive Reimbursement for Acute Administrative Days

For CFOs, patient billing staff, case management staff

CHA will hold a webinar on Dec. 15 from 11 a.m. to noon (PT) to update members about the Department of Health Care Services’ (DHCS) decision to allow retroactive reimbursement for acute administrative days.

According to DHCS, acute administrative days reimbursement will apply to public and private hospitals (designated and non-designated) caring for Medi-Cal fee-for-service beneficiaries for COVID-19-related illness. This allowance will be retroactive to March 18, 2020,  and will extend through the duration of the declared public health emergency.

In the webinar, DHCS leadership will explain the parameters and process for acute administrative days reimbursement, including which patients qualify and documentation needed, such as the COVID-19 clinical course, specific coding, and roadblocks to patient placement. For most hospitals, a Treatment Authorization Request will also be required prior to billing.
