These tools focus on fostering effective collaboration between hospitals and emergency management agencies to support a coordinated responses during disasters. They also include training resources to help hospital staff gain specialized knowledge on protocols to ensure staff are equipped to handle various crisis scenarios.
This instructive video from the US Department of Homeland Security demonstrates possible actions to take if confronted with an active shooter scenario. The video reviews the choices of evacuating, hiding, or, as an option of last resort, challenging the shooter. The video also shows how to assist authorities once law enforcement enters the scene.
The IS-800 course is available through FEMA’s website. The course introduces participants to the concepts and principles of the National Response Framework.
