2022 Disaster Conference
Kaiser Permanente presents on its journey to standardize emergency response across eight regions, 42 hospitals, and a national command center. Learn about the research, development, and implementation of an incident response tool that fosters effective, accurate, and timely communication. Learnings from Kaiser Permanente can help other hospitals identify technology needs, potential questions, issues and strategies as they work to improve incident response.
2022 Disaster Conference
This presentation helps Joint Commission-accredited hospitals and critical access hospitals implement newly revised emergency management chapter standards and elements of performance and understand the new survey process.
2023 Disaster Conference
The Joint Commission and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services require that health care entities maintain “all-hazard” emergency preparedness and response capability and capacity. Leveraging virtual reality (VR) as a training modality for emergency management training holds great promise as an effective, realistic, immersive, and scalable health care training strategy.
This session discussed adult learning theory, emergency management training challenges and strategies, and how virtual reality provides an efficient alternative to traditional training methods.
This tool is designed to assist hospitals in the development of an Incident Action Plan (IAP) for each operational period. The IAP uses a combination of Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) Forms; it is minimally comprised of HICS 201 Incident Briefing, HICS 202 Incident Objectives, HICS 203 Organization Assignment List, HICS 204 Branch Assignment List, and HICS 215A Incident Action Safety Analysis.
2021 Virtual Disaster Conference
The Joint Commission accredits and certifies more than 22,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. It is the nation’s oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. This presentation discusses changes to the Emergency Management survey process, provides an overview of the review tool, and lays out the updated standards and elements of performance.
This assessment tool was developed to assist hospitals in revising and updating existing disaster plans or in the development of new plans. The tool was originally used by a subject matter expert survey team to collect data for a Department of Homeland Security grant so it is constructed in a survey format. The data was […]
Hospitals are required to have an Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) detailing plans for responding and recovering from hazards. The plan must include 6 critical elements within The Joint Commission’s Emergency Management Standards:
Communications
Resources and assets
Safety and security
Staff responsibilities
Utilities
Clinical support activities
HICS Courses About HICS Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) is a standardized approach to incident management tailored specifically for hospitals and health care organizations. HICS provides a framework for hospitals to respond quickly and effectively to various incidents and supports hospitals in emergency management planning, response, and recovery capabilities. Key elements of HICS include: Identifying […]
Restore our purpose.
Refocus on what’s ahead.
