CHA Develops Comment Letter on Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility PPS Proposed Rule

CHA will submit to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) a comment letter on the inpatient rehabilitation facility prospective payment system proposed rule for federal fiscal year (FFY) 2021. On behalf of members, CHA expresses opposition to proposed changes that would allow non-physician practitioners to perform activities that are currently required to be conducted by a rehabilitation physician.

VA Centralizes Emergency Care Notification

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has established a national emergency care contact center to simplify the emergency care notification process. The Community Care Centralized Notification Center is the mechanism by which community providers must now notify the VA of a veteran presenting at an emergency facility.

As state lawmakers finalize this year’s budget, a new survey from Quinn Thomas and DHM Research has found that Californians prioritize public health and Medi-Cal over other categories of spending. The COVID-19 pandemic has elevated Californians’ concerns about investments in public health, including protecting key health care services from budget cuts.

Overview 

In March, The Joint Commission (TJC) suspended all surveys due to COVID-19. That has changed as the COVID-19 curve flattens and state and counties begin to reopen. As of June 1, TJC has resumed reaccreditation surveys nationally, including hospitals in some California counties.
