On Monday, Duane Dauner, who led CHA for 33 years until his retirement in 2017, died in a car accident near his home in Palm Desert.  

This is a blow to all who knew him, all who worked with him, and to all who value better health care in California.

Citing concern about COVID-19’s immediate and long-term impact on individuals’ mental health, the directors of the Department of Health Care Services and California Department of Public Health, and the state Surgeon General, have called on all California medical and behavioral health providers to ask four suicide screening questions of the people they care for.

Hospital Licensing Fees Increase, but Less Than Expected

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has released its final fee schedule for the state fiscal year 2020-21. While  licensing fees have increased, the increase is significantly less than CDPH proposed in February. Specifically, fees statewide were proposed to increase 28%, but instead have increased 15%. Fees in Los Angeles County were proposed to increase 35%, but instead have increased 20%.

California Hospital Association Mourns Passing of Former CEO C. Duane Dauner

OSHPD Provides Support for Temporary COVID-19 Space on Hospital Campuses

CHA has learned from the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) that it is available to assist hospitals in making temporary changes to accommodate additional patients during the COVID-19 State of Emergency. For closed or vacant buildings that hospitals have not used due to issues such as seismic safety requirement non-compliance, OSHPD will offer advice and recommendations on how hospitals can temporarily use these buildings as alternate care sites.
