Webinar Will Address Ransomware and Emerging Cyber Threats That Target Hospitals

Crime does not stop because of COVID-19. The increasing sophistication and frequency of ransomware, phishing, and hacking attacks mean that the health care industry is more vulnerable than ever to cybersecurity threats. On Feb. 11 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. (PT), CHA will host a webinar that will discuss firsthand hospital experience with attacks in late 2020 and how to safeguard patient care and protect operations.  

AHA, Health-ISAC Warn of Potential Terror Threat Targeted at Hospitals

What’s happening: On March 18, the American Hospital Association (AHA) and Health Information Sharing and Analysis Center (Health-ISAC) saw a social media post indicating concern for a coordinated, multi-city terrorist attack on low-security hospitals in mid-tier cities in the coming weeks, and released a bulletin on March 19 to spread awareness.  

What else to know: Although the threat’s credibility cannot be verified at this time, the AHA and Health-ISAC recommend that hospitals review and evaluate the coordination and capabilities of physical security, cybersecurity, and emergency management plans, and spread internal awareness of this potential threat.

CHA Disaster Planning Conference Focuses on Lessons Learned

What’s happening: CHA held its annual Disaster Planning Conference in Pasadena on Sept. 10 and 11. Topics included best practices for communication and collaboration in an emergency, treatment of special pathogens, enhancing health care cybersecurity, and fundamentals of radiation protection.    

What else to know: More than 500 people attended the conference, including emergency preparedness directors and coordinators; members of hospital disaster planning teams; compliance, nurse, and case managers; and quality and safety executives.
