The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued All Facilities Letter (AFL) 20-85, which informs skilled-nursing facilities (SNFs) of the requirement that they have a full-time dedicated infection preventionist, a plan for infection prevention control, and annual training for all health care personnel, as provided in Assembly Bill (AB) 2644.
Update on Monoclonal Antibody Therapy Authorized for Emergency Use
On Nov. 9, the Food and Drug Administration granted emergency use authorization (EUA) to a monoclonal antibody therapy called bamlanivimab, produced by Eli Lilly and Company, for the treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19. The federal government has purchased 320,000 doses through the end of 2020; the first allocation to California will be 4,040 doses. California is expected to receive allocations each week.
Senate Bill 1237, which the Governor signed into law on Sept. 18, will expand the scope of practice for nurse-midwives in California. On Nov. 30 from 1 to 2 p.m. (PT), CHA will host a webinar where experts will explain current law, changes in the new law, and what compliance looks like, as well as answer participants’ questions. Following the approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of emergency use authorization for the investigational monoclonal antibody therapy, bamlanivimab, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced it will cover monoclonal antibody therapies, with no beneficiary cost-sharing for the duration of the COVID-19 public health emergency.
