SB 253 (Wiener, D-San Francisco) Details
Passed the Assembly Sept. 11. The Senate agreed to Assembly amendments on Sept. 12. Pending governor’s action.
SB 253 would require businesses, including hospitals and health care providers, with annual revenue in excess of $1 billion to publicly disclose their direct greenhouse gas emissions and indirect emissions related to electricity, heating, and cooling annually to the California Air Resources Board starting in 2026. Other upstream and downstream indirect emissions would need to be reported starting in 2027.
