About Physician Choice
Nationwide, physicians increasingly want to be directly employed by hospitals because they can focus on patients instead of running a small business. A full 45% of new doctors want to be directly employed. But that’s not possible in California, where a nearly century-old law prohibits doctors from choosing how they practice. The state already faces challenges in meeting the needs of 40 million Californians, especially for primary care services in underserved areas. To address this worsening problem California must expand opportunities for physicians to choose how they work.
