CMS, OSHA Issue Regulations on COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued an interim final rule with comment period, requiring COVID-19 vaccinations for workers in most health care settings that receive Medicare or Medicaid reimbursement, including but not limited to hospitals, dialysis facilities, ambulatory surgical settings, home health agencies, and long-term care facilities.
CMS Issues CY 2022 OPPS Final Rule, Increases Price Transparency Penalties
On Nov. 2, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) finalized Medicare payment rates for hospital outpatient and ambulatory surgical center (ASC) services. CMS estimates that Medicare expenditures under the outpatient prospective payment system (OPPS) will increase by $1.3 billion based on changes in the final rule.
HHS Renews COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Declaration
The Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has renewed the COVID-19 public health emergency declaration for another 90 days, effective Oct. 18. The 90-day renewal puts the public health emergency in place through Jan. 16, 2022, and ensures flexibilities — like waivers and special rules tied to the declaration — remain in place for providers.
