Urges California delegation to cosponsor

CHA sent a letter to the California congressional delegation this week, urging support of the Resident Physician Shortage Act of 2019 (H.R. 1763), which takes steps to reduce nationwide physician shortages by increasing the number of Medicare-supported residency positions.

H.R. 1763 would support an additional 3,000 positions each year for the next five years, for a total of 15,000 residency positions. The current freeze on the number of physician training positions that Medicare supports exacerbates the physician shortage in California and the nation.

CHA asks hospital leaders to contact their congressional representative and urge them to cosponsor H.R. 1763 to ensure Californians will have the health care they need.
