For the first time, CHA’s Disaster Planning for California Hospitals conference will take place on Sept. 11. To honor those who gave everything they had — and those who continue to put their lives at risk — CHA has invited a Ground Zero 9/11 first responder, Glen Klein, to help us remember how that day has shaped our world.
Previously a New York City detective and paramedic, Klein has seen it all. On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, Klein was an officer with New York Police Department’s elite Emergency Services Unit. He found himself at a command post just down the street from the World Trade Center, engulfed in dust from the collapse of the south tower. Glen’s unit rushed into the burning World Trade Center towers and worked for more than 800 hours trying to recover 23 fellow officers and other victims.
Attendees will hear Klein’s tribute to his fallen brothers and sisters of 9/11.
“This is the first time in 18 years I won’t be paying my respects at the cemetery,” Klein said. “This conference is important. We all need to remember. I need to be there. The guys will understand.”
